I have not posted a Proverbs reading in a while, I have been emailing them to friends that I think like to read them, no one has said quit sending. I did fail in my efforts to read a chapter a day for the whole summer. I went to Benton and got involved in a yard sale and just did not make the time. Todays reading hit home because I have learned the hard way to pay attention to what my Mom tells me, my sons have also had hard heads and learned this lesson the hard way also.
Read Vs 20 "Listen to counsel and accept discipline, that you may be wise the rest of your days."
Surround your self with Godly men and women to give you advise.
Thank you for reading Proverbs with me this summer, we will grow in God and honor Him.

July 10th Proverbs 10
Vs 1 " "The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother"
I think we could put daughter in place of son and not change the meaning but have it apply to me. I hope I am the adult my parents wanted me to be. I know I was not the wise daughter during my youth and caused grief to my mother and grandmother. But each day is a gift from God and I need to use this gift to bring glory and honor to Him. I pray that this summer reading will let the word of God go from my hard head to my heart so that what comes out my mouth and my actions will all bring glory to my Heavenly Father and to Mom and Dad.

Pathway July 7 Proverbs 7
July 7th
My mothers birthday, my friend Ben’s birthday that makes this day a double special day. God is good-all the time.
Proverbs 7 begins with an urging to treasure the commandments. Do I really treasure the word of God? I do not think that I have ever really thought about God’s word in this way and perhaps that is why I was called to read Proverbs this summer, so that I would have a change in my way of thinking about God’s word.
To treasure vs 1
To keep vs 2
To bind and write vs 3
To call my sister vs 4
As a protection for me vs 5
I pray that as I/we spend this summer reading through Proverbs that my/our heart will be changed. I would love to talk with anyone about what God is saying to you as we read Proverbs just contact me any time.

July 5 & 6
Proverbs 5
Vs 21 “For the ways of a man are be fore the eyes of the Lord and He watches all his paths”
God is not removed from us, if we are children of the King then His Holy Spirit is always with us if we were to remember that we are before the Lord then perhaps what we do and how we act would be different.
Proverbs 6
Vs 21 “Bind them continually on you heart, tie them around you neck”
We need to learn God’s word; we need to make God’s word an active part of our lives. Again I am convicted that I need to memorize God’s word to bind it on my heart. Perhaps you too need to do this very thing.

July 2,3, & 4
July 2, 3, & 4
These past few days have been a blur, well at lease the 2nd and 3rd have been it is still early on the 4th, but I am in pain and can not sleep. I have taken some, meds so if this ends up making no sense I am sorry.
This month I am reading from The New American Standard edition, there are no foot notes and no cross references in this little Bible.
Vs7 Chapter 2 “He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity”
There is no reason to ever be dishonest
Vs 3 Chapter 3 “Do not let kindness and truth leave you, bind them around your neck write them on the tablet of your heart”
There is never a good reason to be rude, hateful or dishonest
Perhaps in Aug we should try and memorize a verse a week write it on the tablet of our hearts
Vs 24 Chapter 4 “Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put devious lips far from you”
Be hones in all that we do.
I do hope every one enjoys the 4th and remember freedom was not free may paid the price and many are still standing in the gap for us now. Thank you men and women of the armed forces for keeping me free.

Proverbs 28- 29-30 and Back to chapter 1
Chapter 28
I am burdened because I was not supportive of a friend the other day. I kept telling them my opinion of what a mistake I thought they had made. I was not encouraging to them even though I am sure He had prayed about the decision he had made. Reading this chapter Verse 13 really brought this to mind.
“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confess and forsakes them will have mercy”
I did call and tell him that I was sorry for being so opinionated and that I was sorry that I was not more supportive of his move. He said there was not need for the call and I told him that God had convicted me of how wrong I was and that was all the need I needed.
Chapter 29
I may have a right to my opinion but I really do not need to share it so freely. When do you think I will learn to just shut up?
Vs 11”a fool vents all his feelings but a wise man holds them back.”
Vs 20”Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.”
Vs 23 “A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble inspirit will retain honor.”
Father God, help me with my tongue problem. Guide me to remember all I have is a gift from you and that it really belongs to you, I am only allowed to use it. In Jesus name I ask and may You be glorified in my life. Amen
Chapter 30
The last day of June let’s just think on Vs 5Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him”
The aim is to read a chapter a day. We have done well in June, perhaps like me you might want to get a different version to read for July as if you could not tell I have been using the New King James version. So ready or not here we go----
July 1, 2009
My thought this morning before I began to read was –am I doing this so I can say I did it (pride) or am I doing this so that I can check off on a list of accomplishment, or am I learning from my Father so that I can be better and during my reading of the first chapter of Proverbs this verse was brought to my attention
Vs 23”Turn to my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you”
Father, grow me in you for Your glory and honor. Amen

Proverbs 27
Chapter 27
VS 6 “faithful are the wounds of a friend …”
Vs 10 “Do not forsake your own friend or your fathers friend…”
Vs 14 “He who blesses his friend with a loud voise rising early in the morning it will be counted a curse to him”
Vs 17 “As iron sharpens iron so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend”
To have a faithful friend, what a blessing, even if that friend has to point out when you are wrong. It has been said to have a friend one must himself be friendly, or perhaps to have a friend you need to be there for that friend.
I can honestly say I do not get vs 14 unless it is saying do not wake you friend up early in the morning by yelling.
The best verse in my opinion is to have a friend that will challenge you, that will hold you accountable in every area of your life, one that encourages you to be better. I want to be this kind of friend and I desire to have this kind of friend to me.

Chapters 23-26
I did not realize that I was so far behind. No excuse this week no company just lazy I guess any way here are my thoughts.
Chapter 23
This chapter makes me think about all those people caught up in addiction vs. 29-35 warn about wine, but I am of the opinion that this can be applied to any addiction. I do not believe that people set out be become addicted it is just one step along that pathway and at some point it becomes like a snow ball down a hill and it seems as if there is no way out. Breaking free is very very hard. The person must decide they want to be free then they have to turn their back on friends and or family to make the change and that is a very scary part the part about being alone no friends. We really need to pray for those trying to get out and to offer a hand when we can. Well off my soap box for now. And on to Chapter 24
Vs 3 & 4 wisdom, understanding, and knowledge
Is this house your life? Could you relate this to your life?
Is your life established with God? Or are you still wondering?
Is your mind filled with good? And what is Good, God is the only good.
Take time to draw near to our Heavenly creator to proclaim Him as King of your life and ask Him to help you to start right now living for Him. Much easier said than done, especially for me.
Chapter 25
Oh me here I am again requesting that I would have a sweet spirit
Vs 23 “It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman”
I have to ask Lewis often for forgiveness due to my smart mouth. I thank God for him daily. A little over 20 years ago I was praying daily for the rapture, because I had two little boys on my hands and I was sure that I could not raise them in a way that would ensure they grew to be Godly men. I am sorry sometimes that we moved from Benton, but never sorry we have Lewis. I so want to be the mate he deserves. So I pray to have a sweet spirit and not be contentious.
Chapter 26
This chapter speaks to me about being lazy; I am guilty of being lazy for the Lord to often. I need to find my place and become a more active member of my church. Is there an area you are lazy in? Let us take this chapter to heart and help us to change our lazy ways.

Proverbs 20, 21, 22
Proverbs 20
Vs 11 “Even a child is known by his deeds whether what he does is pure and right”
Those of us that are saved/children of the King of Kings the world see all our deeds. Are they pure and right?
Father, help me to see my sins and help me to confess these and to allow your spirit to mold me to be what would bring glory and honor to you Amen
Proverbs 21
Are you getting discouraged? Have you missed a couple days? We have had company this past week and I have been reading, but I have not had time to post my readings or discussions and I have not checked my email hope all are doing well. Don’t give in to Satan, pick up today and keep going. My thought today is again about my mouth:
Vs 9 “contentious woman”
Vs 19 “contentious and angry women”
Vs 23” Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from trouble”
Father, God I need you to guard my heat with the breast plate of righteousness so that what comes out my mouth will be loving and will build up others in your name I ask. Be glorified in my life in Jesus name Amen
9 more days and we start proverbs over. I think I will look fir a different version I currently have New King James Version.
Proverbs 22
Lewis and I are taking a class at church: Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and today there are a couple of verses that bring home some of the points in this lesson
Vs 7 “and the borrower is servant to the lender”
Vs 26 “one of those who is surety for debts”
I really wish I had this class when I was much younger to learn some of the principles so that my life and the lives of my children would be so much more financially secure. We are learning different ways to do things what a challenge.

Pathway continues Chapter 16 & 17
0ur Path continues: Chapter 16 & 17
Chapter 16
Vs 17 “the highway of the upright is to depart from evil”
I am again drawn to the song by Casting Crowns “Slow Fade” and the simple phrase included in that song “oh be careful little eye what you see”
We are to depart from evil, to run away from it, to turn and go in the other direction as fast as we can.
Lord help us to know sin for what it is and to remove ourselves quickly from it before we are caught up in it.
Chapter 17
When is it ok to be angry? What is the best way to be angry and sin not? I really think I need some conflict resolution classes or some class that will help me to be angry in a constructive way.
Vs 27 “He who has knowledge spares his words and a man of understanding is a calm spirit”
What is the knowledge you have to have so that what you say is the right thing “spare his words”?
What understanding do you have to have to have “a calm spirit”?
I would really like for someone to discuss this with me and to help me understand so that I can grow in this area.

Chapter 10-13
Our Pathway continues
Are you still with me? Are you reading a Proverb daily? If you are like me I needed to take a deep breath today Day 12 and consider days 10,11,&12 so many things to ponder, let us remember one day at a time. If you have fallen behind just start with what ever day it is and read the Proverb with that date on it i.e. June 12 read chapter 12. Such a great adventure (to borrow from Steven Curtis Chapmon) to see what God has in store for us this summer.
Chapter 10
Vs 1 A wise son makes a glad father
Vs 2 righteousness delivers from death
Vs 3 The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish this is where I paused today. What could cause a soul to famish? Lack of time with the Lord, lack of Bible Study, lack of group worship, lack of prayer time. Where do many look to fill this spot in us that only God can fill? “the righteous” those that have a persona relationship with God no longer have that void. Turn to Jesus today, surrender your will to Him, and accept Him as your savior.
What did this Chapter say to you?
Chapter 11
I was personally convicted by vs. 22 “as a ring of gold in a swine’s snort so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion”. So many times I react I speak without thinking, I respond in anger, I say hurtful things. I do not want to be like the wicked person in this chapter. I want to be like the righteous as in vs. 12 “but a man of understanding holds his peace” oh to know when to just “shut up”, but to also know when to speak-discretion.
Continue to pray with me about my/our discretion.
Chapter 12
Don’t you just live the first half of vs. 21 “no grave trouble will over take the righteous”? We will enjoy the splendor of a New Heaven and a New Earth. We will see Jesus daily and can walk with Him and talk with Him just think a restored but better Garden of Eden because this time there will be no serpent.
I do hope every one is enjoying reading Proverbs. What is God saying to you as you read this chapter? Is He calling you to turn to Him today? Don’t resist come to Him and join us in this New Heaven and Earth.
Chapter 13
All of these verses have something for every step of our path. Today the 2nd half of vs. 17 really spoke to me “a faithful ambassador brings health”
If I am a faithful ambassador for Jesus Christ I will bring health to others, I want to be this kind of person and I thin I can do this in two ways:
1. I want others to see Jesus in me and for their sin sickness to be washed away by the blood of Jesus-I must share the gospel with them
2. I want to use by certification (APN) to help people stay healthy, become healthier and to recover form illness or to be able to deal with the illness and by doing this to also have the opportunity to share Jesus with them. I am not real sure how this will work I am still praying about this and waiting on the Lord to open the door.
How exciting to wait on God to see what He has in mind.

Chapter 14 & 15
Pathway Chapter 14 & 15
Chapter 14
So many good things we need to apply to our lives
Vs 17 “a quick tempered man acts foolishly”
Vs 29 “He who is slow to wrath has great understanding”
I would suppose that it would be Biblical to say-now when you get mad count to 10 before responding-instead of reacting.
Sometimes I am good at this and sometimes I am the sinner that I am and I fail. I so wish I could respond in love in stead of reacting in anger. How about you?
Chapter 15
Can you believe we are half way through the month of June? Again we are reminded in Vs 33
“The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom”
Do I really fear the Lord? Do I act like I really fear the Lord? Don’t give up-let’s keep reading and studying and growing into the person we were created to be on that has an active growing relationship with Jesus and to share it with others

Chapter 7,8 & 9
Chapter 7
Chapter 5 & Chapter 6 vs 20-29 and all but the first 5 verses of this chapter all talk about sexual immorality, this is a non wise, void of uunderstanding disobedient act. Coming from a medical back ground this is one of the worst things you can do to your own body, considering all the diseases that are present today. If you can not be obedient to the word of God because you do not have a relationship with God at least be scared enough of the diseases to stay away from this behavior (ok off my soap box).
What do you think about vs 2? “Keep my commands and live, and my law as the apple of you eye”. My Bible commentary compares the apple of the eye to the pupil of our eye and how sensitive it is (more medical stuff) and how we protect our eyes, perhaps we should be sensitive to God’s word.
1. Be sensitive to the call of God, He wants all to become His children, turn accept His as you Savior and then you can spend this summer growing in Him
2. If you already are a child of God’s but like me you have let other things get between you and God now is the time to surrender you will and “keep my commands (vs 2)”.
Chapter 8
This may be simple and I could be missing a lot of things in this chapter but to me this chapter is calling every on to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, now that sounds so churchy-How do I put this so that any that read this would understand? Use the word of God.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
We are all without wisdom/God and we can find Him when we seek with our heart
John 3:16 “For God so loved us that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”.
A life better than gold or silver or rubies
Because in heaven we will walk on streets of gold and I think in Revelations rubies are part of the foundation.
Get wisdom-call on God today-let’s all go to heaven together
Chapter 9
Vs 10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”
Chapter 1 vs 7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”
Vs 29 “Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord”
Chapter 3 vs 7 “ do not be wise in your own eyes fear the Lord and depart from evil”
We also have in this chapter the contrast between the wise and the foolish, the wise have a feast and the foolish have bread and water

Pathway Proverbs Chapter 5 & 6
Pathway: Chapter 5
Vs 1 “pay attention” How many times have I heard this? Am I paying attention if not I could wander off the path and get involved in situations that I do not need to be in.
Casting Crowns has the perfect song for this chapter (in my opinion) Slow Fade if you have not heard this make an effort to do so. Listen to the words very powerful. It makes me think about the condition of our heart and how we have to become as little children trusting and accepting (I think this is from the Bible, and this is the exact reason I have convinced myself that I can not witness because I can not remember were verses are)
“Oh be careful little eyes what you see” could easily have said pay attention little eyes to what you are allowing to come in to the brain.
This is probably too simple a way to explain this chapter but that is what is said to me.
Chapter 6
I am taking a class at church “Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey. The first 5 verses of this chapter were used by Dave to encourage us to avoid debt. In fact he used a video clip of a Gazelle running to emphasize the need for us to avoid debt.
I guess since I am writing chapter 5 & 6 today that again I am drawn to Slow Fade, we do not get in to debt over night, it is usually a slow I want or I think I need process and one day we wake up and we have thousands of dollars on a credit card and wonder how did this happen. He goes on to use verses 6-11 as an example of how to solve this problem. Work work work, over time or a second job to debt out of your life. This is a good study and I would recommend it to any one.
What does God hate vs. 16-19?
1. Proud look
2. Lying tongue
3. Hands that shed innocent blood
4. Heart that devises wicked plans
5. Feet that are swift in running to evil
6. False witness (isn’t that lying?)
7. Sowing discord among brethren
There is so much in each of these chapters we could probably spend days on each of them but that is not the plan we must push on.
Thank you for walking with me and for the encouraging calls that I have gotten.

Pathway Chapter 3 & 4
Chapter 3
I was thinking about all the many different translations of the Bible and thinking that perhaps next month I will read Proverbs in a different translation. This month I am reading in The New King James version. I was also thinking about words and the word review that was noted yesterday. Today the word I am looking at is good. What is good?
Vs 27 “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.” “it is due” makes me think of a bill, like when is it due or when does it have to be paid so the good that should come is it due to what the person has done or is it because of the person that is giving it?
Another thought: there are many dangers to taking a verse out of context and using it to prove your point. I do not want to be guilty of this-
To me this verse is saying if there is any thing that would be productive, uplifting for someone and I can be the physical supplier that I should do so-such as mail a card to encourage, send an email, buy a coke and give them my time and attention.
Do you think I am on the right track? Am I wandering away from what God intended?
Thank you for walking with me for encouraging me and for keeping me on the right track.
Comments wanted.
Chapter 4
Again today I am thinking of two paths: the shining or the darkness
We can always choose the path we take, but at some point the path takes us and we end up going where we really did not want to go, stay longer than we wanted and cost a whole lot more than we wanted to give. Such as trying to dry out from drugs or alcohol, or being at the point where we have to choose different friends, and some even have to leave family. These choices are hard to do but not impossible, but if we teach children to make the right choices we can save them from these really hard ones. So if you are in a position to influence be the best God can use. This leads me back to vs. 27 in chapter 3 do good when you can.
Vs 1 the instruction of a father-our Heavenly Father through the love letter to us the Bible
Vs 5 get wisdom, get understanding
Vs 6 do not forsake
Vs 7 get wisdom and understanding
Vs 27 remove your foot from evil
This is my thoughts on Chapter 4 seems like I have still been lingering on Chapter 3
Again thank you for walking with me on this journey.
Comments needed.

pathway continued
Pathway continued
Lessons I have received thus far
Chapter 1
Vs-10 do not consent-a conscious effort even a predetermined choice
Vs 15 keep your foot from their path-you again have to make a choice on which path you will take, not a easy thing to do because you will probably have to walk away from some “friends” or even family
Vs 23 turn at my rebuke- to repent of my sins at the first prompting
Vs 33 without fear of evil-for greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world (somebody needs to tell me just where this verse is)1 John 4:4 (thanks Gail)
Comments from Gail:
v 5 "A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel." Lord, increase my ability to learn and understand so I grow into a person of wise counsel.
v 8 "Her, my son, your father's instruction and do not foraske your mother's teaching." I am so thankful for having a godly heritage. Food for thought: Would I be a Christian today if I had been born in a different time, different county, and rise under a different religion?
v 10 "My son, if sinners entice you, Do NOT consent." Simple words yet profound wisdom and oh how much trouble I could have avoided if I had just practiced what I had been taught.
v 22 "How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? " Yes, God has a sense of humor. How many times do I feel Him asking me that question. Or, should I say, how many times to my choices and actions require God to have to ask me that question to get my attention.
v 23 "Turn to my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you." Despite my faults - God still promises to benear, to speak and make His words known to me. I am so blesses.
Chapter 2
Two paths-two choices Broad way vs Narrow way (Matt 7:13&14).
My Bible will occ. pick out a word and break it down and discuss it and in this chapter the word for skill. It will take some skill on my part to recognize the path and to act with integrity but I am afraid that I do not always see with my spiritual eyes. A lot of the time I react with my physicalness.
Other words from this chapter:
Treasure, incline, apply, seek, search-actions on my part for my good
The Lord gives, stores up, is a shield, guards, preserves-these are things that God does for me.
Fear-this word is hard for me to get my head around, I would rather use the word revere, or respect. Sometimes I think the word fear causes me to think of people that have been so abused they tremble with even the mention of the name of the one that has caused the harm. So why would God choose the word fear? Does the converting of the word in Hebrew to English lead to the use of the word fear? Does any one have a comment on this word Fear.
Thank you all for joining me on this journey
A note from Gail on Fear:
Fear of the Lord , is also described in Isaiah 11:2-3 (known as wonder and awe).
In Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10, the fear of the Lord is called the beginning or foundation of wisdom . In Proverbs 15:33, the fear of the Lord is described as the "discipline" or "instruction" of wisdom. fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread, above all things, to offend Him."
"Fear" in "fear of the Lord" is often misinterpreted as "servile fear" (the fear of getting in trouble) when it should be understood as "filial fear" (the fear of offending someone whom one loves).
C.S. Lewis references the term in many of his writings, but specifically describes it in his book The Problem of Pain and states that fear is not what one feels for a tiger, or even a ghost.
Rather, C. S. Lewis describes it, as one filled with awe, in which you "feel wonder and a certain shrinking" or "a sense of inadequacy to cope with such a visitant of or prostration before it". It is a fear that comes forth out of love for the Lord.
"The Fear of the Lord" is felt because one understands the "fearful expectation of judgment" (Hebrews 10:27). Still, this is not a fear that leads one to despair, rather it must be coupled with trust, and most importantly, love. In Psalm 130:3-4, it is said, "If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared."
It is the convergence of awe, reverence, adoration, honor, worship, confidence, thankfulness, love, and fear."

Path way to Success
Isn’t it (what word do I want to put here, at first I thought about putting the word strange, then I thought about the word wonderful, then amazing, then surprising, you decide) how God works. For instance, Friday, Vanessa was going to the library to see if she could find a book to assist her with studying the book of Proverbs, and then today the sermon was on the first book of Proverbs and we were challenged by Bro. Steve to read the book of Proverbs for the summer one chapter a day and read it every month for the summer. (again you can pick a word to put in this spot because I am just at a loss for a word that would convey the feelings I have about how awesome, and wonderful and inspiring my God is) that the book of Proverbs has 31 chapters, so in June the reading would leave out chapter 31(that Proverbs 31 Woman always is such a convicting chapter to me perhaps by there only being 30 days in June by the time I got to July 31 I might be more prepared spiritually and mentally to read and accept and adjust my life), but in July and Aug chapter 31 would fit for a chapter for each day. To add to that the small group lesson this am was on Romans Chapter 12 where we are called to transform our lives. This whole morning I was reminded that I need to concentrate on being what God wants me to be.
Just a few notes from the sermon this morning to begin a summer journey of spiritual growth and it just so happens (again a place where you could put in what ever word you might feel was appropriate) that tomorrow in June 1. The title of the sermon this morning was Path to Success, Bro. Steve stressed that the book of Proverbs was a good book to read to help me with practical living so that I could better understand my position. This is the way he broke down the first chapter of Proverbs:
Chapter 1
Verse 1-6 Deal with recognize the truth “to know, to perceive, to receive, to give, to understand”
Verse 7 Reverence for God “The fear of the Lord” to stand in awe of, to honor, to respect, to reverence and submission to God
Verse 8 & 9 Respect of Authority-this would include teaching children and disciplining them
Verse 10-19 Refusal to Pressure-not giving in, to stand for what is right even if no one else is
Verse 20-33 Repentance of Sin-there is no way we can know God personally until we are willing to confess our sin to ask for forgiveness and then to follow God “Whoever listens to me (that is Jesus Christ and we have His love letter to us in the Bible) will dwell safely and will be secure, without fear of evil” This does not mean that only good things will happen this just means that we have a home in heaven and that no matter the difficulty that we face we have a the promise of a bright future.
Join me this summer in reading Proverbs and growing into the person God created you to be.
